Michele (Shelly) Menzia started teaching in 1984 in a small village called Shungnak about 15 miles north of the Arctic Circle after receiving her teaching degree in regular and special education from Western Washington University. After four years in the N.W. Arctic School district she moved to the beautiful Mat-Su valley which has been home to her and her family ever since. She has taught all grades from preschool to adult education and obtained her Master's of Education degree from Western Oregon University in 2000. She has taught regular education, special education and Title 1. In 1995 she received over 100 hours of  training in the Lindamood-Bell  learning strategies program which she has implemented for many years when teaching her favorite subject- reading!

Interests- When not working, Michele enjoys gardening, knitting, walking, cross country skiing and playing with her 6 rescue dogs. She also enjoys singing and recently joined a local choir. (A big step up from singing around the camp fire while strumming the guitar.) Summers are spent, hiking, biking, kayaking, paddle boating, gardening and reading a good book outside on her deck.
